Mermaids of the Lake, an online women's ezine publication, will be hosts for: "If the Shoe Fits...Wear it" Event; and "Shoes for Kids", a local community shoe drive. The overall goal is to raise over a 1000 pairs of tennis shoes or boots for underprivileged kids, K-12 in Spokane and the surrounding areas by August 11, 2011 so that the children will receive brand new shoes in time to begin the new school year. Premiering at this event is the "Shoes for Kids", a back-to-school shoe drive for underprivileged children. The shoes donated at the event, as well as from drop-off locations around the city, will be organized and distributed by Mia Bella Eventi Productions and Mermaids of the Lake along with community partners including East Central Community Center, West Central Community Center, North East Community Center and Mission Community Outreach. Cash donations along with the live auction and raffle proceeds will go toward the purchase of socks and/or more shoes to meet the goal.

According the US Census Bureau's American Community Survey one-year estimate, there were 105,337 children living in Spokane County in 2010. Of those, 18,242 were living under the poverty line. That's 17.3%, more than 1 in every 6 children. In 2011 45% of kids in Spokane were eligible for free or reduced lunches. Mia Bella Eventi Productions, an event production company owned by Genia Seghetti has created the 'If the Shoe Fits...Wear It' shoe musical and fashion show event along with 'Shoes for Kids' specifically for and in support of Shelly Hepler and Debbie Nania who are the talent behind Mermaids of the Lake.

The event will take place August 11th and guests will enjoy exciting shoe musical numbers with dancers who will be wearing the latest fall shoe fashions and clothing. Live auction items will include one of a kind art shoes designed by Inland NW professional artists, shoes created by Miss Spokane and a dozen decadent edible chocolate shoes created by a local Chocolatier and more! The gala will also feature a no host bar and gourmet food and dessert samples from several local restaurants. Over 50 vendors are expected to participate in support of this first ever, community shoe drive!

'If the Shoe Fits...Wear It' will be held at the Spokane Convention Center on Thursday, August 11, from 5:30-9:30pm. Tickets are on sale now at www.iftheshoefitswearit.eventbrite.com.
