7th Annual Cobra Polo Classic nears $2 million mark

Photo ID: Mary Christen and Kathleen Cavender enjoy The Cobra Polo Classic in their stylish hats

A fabulous celebration of tents, hats and champagne took place yesterday at Spokane's polo grounds, benefitting Ronald McDonald House Charities of Spokane. More than 1100 guests attended the celebration of tents, hats and champagne to make this event the largest charity polo event in the United States.

Final totals are still being tabulated, but early projections indicate The Cobra Polo Classic has now raised nearly $2 million dollars for Ronald McDonald House Charities Spokane in the seven years its been held.

Thanks to the amazing support of the Inland Northwest community, Ronald McDonald House of Spokane is able to provide 700 families per year a 'Home Away From Home'. Most of the families that stay at RMHC are dealing with children who are born prematurely, battling cancer, or recovering from traumatic accidents. Many do not have any forewarning and arrive at the house without personal essentials.

For more information go to their website rmhcspokane.com.

Project Beauty Share knows the beauty is in the giving

Year-round Project Beauty Share collects beauty and hygiene products and distributes them through local agencies to women whose circumstances do not allow them to afford these items. In September, Project Beauty Share will host its 2nd annual Toilet Paper Drive to benefit local shelters. This year they've expanded the drive and are partnering with Tracy Jewelers who is acting as a second drop off site.

Toilet paper, while a necessity, is not available with food stamps or via any other programs. Local shelters report that toilet paper is one of their most requested, yet least-donated, items. "While clothing and food drives are common, toiletries are often forgotten," said Tracie Swanson, Development Director for Our Place Community Ministries.

But it's easy to help. Support Project Beauty Share and the TP Drive in aiding local, less-fortunate women and families by donating rolls of toilet paper on September 16 from 7:00am to 6:00pm and September 17 from 9:00am to 1:00pm. Donations can be made to the Project Beauty Share main collection center at The Make-Up Studio, located at 216 North Bernard in downtown Spokane, or at our second drop off site at Tracy Jewelers, 106 N Evergreen Rd in Spokane Valley. The TP Drive will benefit Anna Ogden Hall, Our Place Community Ministries, YWCA, Hope House, Transitions, Catholic Charities of Spokane, Spokane Valley Partners, Coeur d'Alene Women's Center and Odyssey World International.
"People forget that it's the little things-toilet paper, toothpaste, toothbrushes, combs, hair ties-that help us feel more human, more alive," said Rusty Barnett of Hope House.

For more information on the TP Drive, please contact The Make-Up Studio at 509-455-7430 or visit www.projectbeautyshare.org.

Spokane's new Zip Code is 90210

The Lilac City is getting a new zip code. Local businesses and organizations are now using the most recognized five digit number in the world, 90210, to reach customers through a powerful, easy to use and cost effective marketing platform enabling them to reach customers through SMS or text marketing.

Text marketing is based upon a business providing an incentive via their traditional marketing channels for consumers to 'opt-in' by texting a unique keyword to a 5 digit number known as a short code. In return, the consumer receives a text message containing a special offer to patronize the business. The business retains the customers' information for delivery of future offers.

Now that text messaging the #1 form of communication in the US, it makes sense for businesses to deliver their message to the one device that consumers always have with them.

For a demo, text the word howsbiz to 90210. For more information contact Wes Ward at 509-217-0076.

Beyond Pink's 2nd annual Designer Bra Fashion Show and 'fun' raiser!

October is national breast health month and Beyond Pink is an event to raise funds for women who could not otherwise afford a certified breast thermogram. The Beyond Pink designer bra fashion show and fundraiser will be held at the Masonic Center in downtown Spokane on October 7th from 5-9 pm. There will be vendors, a silent auction, appetizers, and a no host bar. The fun starts at 5pm, fashion show and live auction start at 7pm. The show and auction will be emceed by KXLY's Mark Peterson.

For more information, sponsorship opportunities, or to purchase tickets go to www.BeyondPink.net. Or email Charlie Brewer at charlie7104@hotmail.com. Tickets are $35 for the event.
