Alan Page to speak at RiverBank Forum Oct. 20

Alan C. Page, former Notre Dame and Minnesota Vikings football legend, and a member of the NFL Hall of Fame, traded in his pads for a gavel and is now on the Minnesota State Supreme Court. The Bearing Sculpture Project Seeks Installation Site for New Public Art

A new public art work, titled Bearing, is to be cast life-size and placed in a prominent location in the greater Spokane area. The Board of Directors for the Bearing Project has finalized details for the casting and installation crew and currently seeks a permanent location for the nearly nine-foot bronze sculpture. Currently the organization is expanding and invites applications for a finance seat on the Board of Directors. Vivo women's clothing store coming to RPS

A new store is coming to River Park Square. Vivo clothing store will open November 1st, offering a merchandise mix appealing to a female audience ranging from teens to mid-thirties. The new store will be located on the third floor next to Claire's. Locally owned by Dale and Shawnda Rainey of Post Falls, this will be the store's fourth area location since 2009. Currently, Vivo has 22 employees and will be expanding their staff with the opening at River Park Square.

Red Lion Hotels names Executive VP and CFO

Red Lion Hotels Corp. named Julie Shiflett as executive vice president and chief financial officer. The Spokane-based company hired her in October 2010 as vice president of finance. Shiflett is a principal of NW CFO, a financial consulting company she founded in 2008. She previously served as CFO of Signature Genomic Laboratories in Spokane and also held positions at Columbia Paint and Coatings, Riley Creek Lumber Co. and Coopers & Lybrand.

Washington Nonprofits hosting launch party in Spokane October 6th

Washington Nonprofits is a state association recently incorporated, whose mission is building a strong, collaborative network of nonprofits serving Washington communities through advocacy, education and capacity building. They will be hosting two launch parties in Spokane and Olympia simultaneously with free advocacy training, local speakers, and a social hour to follow with food and beverages.

Spokane's launch party will be hosted at the Spokane Masonic Center, Thursday, October 6th from 3:00 to 7:00pm. A free training, 'Advocacy: A critical part of achieving your mission' will be delivered by nonprofit sector veteran Melora Hiller, MPA from Seattle University, and whose work focuses on organizational development, capacity building, and program planning. Following the advocacy training, the event will feature a social hour from 5:00 to 7:00pm which will include presentations from KREM 2 Community Marketing Director, Laura Papetti, and other local speakers.

ValPak wins Telly Award

The Valpak 'Push, Click, Tap' has been recognized for creative excellence with the silver 2011 Telly Award. The campaign was launched early this year. The Telly Awards honor the very best local, regional, and cable television commercials and programs, as well as the finest video and film productions and work created for the web. The silver Telly statuette is designed by the same firm that makes the Oscar and Emmy and weighs more than 4-1/2 lbs.

The campaign features the digital advertising products offered through Valpak including Valpak.com, texting, mobile apps and daily deals, which compliment the familiar blue Valpak envelope.

Touch a Truck event this Saturday

The Junior League of Spokane is putting on a hands-on event for kids this Saturday, October 1 from 9am to 4pm at 6021 E Mansfield (off Fancher between Trent & Rutter). Kids and families can explore fire trucks, ambulances, police cars, helicopter, buses, construction equipment and more and meet the people who build, protect and serve the Spokane Community. There will be face painting, food vendors, information booths, activities and more. Cost is $5 a person, age 2 and under free. $1 off admission with a non-perishable food item to The Salvation Army Food Bank.

Spokane Association of Realtors Celebrates Centennial

The Spokane Association of Realtors celebrated its centennial last week and has commissioned three original works, all locally created that are available to the public. The centennial collection includes: A limited edition Fine Art Print, titled Celebrating 100 Years, by artist Rolf Goetzinger, featuring Frederic Elmendorf, who was the first president of Spokane Realty Board, and his wife motoring past the Spokane Club. A limited edition hardcover book, Spokane: Our Early History - Under All is the Land, written by Tony and Suzanne Bamonte; and a limited edition DVD, Under All is the Land, the companion video to the book of the same name.
