Local designer Hara Allison working for Ad Age

Ad Age Magazine is the bible of Madison Avenue. So when it comes time to pick designers to produce in house marketing projects, you'd expect them to seek out some of the hot shot Mad Men (and women) in the advertising capital of the world. And while we're sure they do, graphic designer Hara Allison, owner of STUDIO H in Post Falls and Spokane has been working with Ad Age designing special advertising sections for the publication every year since 2008. She's just about to start working on Ad Age's Audience Buying Guide. In addition, Hara's STUDIO H serves a wide variety of local, regional and national clients from her base in the Inland Northwest. Changes in management at Lydig Construction

Larry Swartz, previously President of Lydig Construction has stepped into the company's CEO position and will continue as Chairman of the Board. Gus Gottschalk has been promoted to President of Lydig's Western Region Group, overseeing all operations out of Lydig's Bellevue office, and Ken Schwartz has been promoted to President of Lydig's Eastern Region Group, overseeing all operations out of Lydig's Spokane office.

LaunchPad event on the state of the construction industry in the Spokane region

LaunchPad INW Invites you to their Construction, Development, Architecture and Engineering Community Event, Friday, January 20, from 11:30am to 1pm at the LaunchPad Training and Event Center.

At this event you will hear from local business professionals who will discuss the state of the construction industry in the Spokane region and best practices for developing relationships in this important industry sector. Free Educational Resource for Start-up Nonprofits

The 2nd Annual Inland Northwest Nonprofit Conference - Leadership Series will be hosted February 16th, 2012 all day at the Spokane Masonic Center. Classes include grants research and writing, human capital management and succession planning, strategic planning, finance, marketing, and board development.

The conference will offer a free roundtable session for individuals who are interested in starting a nonprofit. Learn about areas such as understanding the 501(c)(3) application process; legal considerations when getting started; how a state association connects you to the nonprofit community; finding work in the nonprofit sector; job roles and functions; starting a capital project, what's involved from the outset; and options other than starting a nonprofit (fiscal sponsor, B Corp). Attendees should plan to come prepared with questions and are encouraged to stay for lunch and keynote presentation.

Lunch is $15 and includes exposure to all the conference exhibitors who will offer more information and resources within the sector. Taking the ad agency business by Storm

Long time broadcast advertising executive Bill Storms took a retirement offer from KHQ at the end of August last year. He started at KHQ as a local account manager, was promoted to Local Sales Manager, moved to National Sales Manager, and then was promoted to General Sales Manager. The last three years he was General Manager of SWX, the digital sports and weather station created by KHQ. Since he has always loved advertising he has started his own ad agency, 7Storms Advertising, located in suite 206 of the Eldridge Building at 1325 West First (at Cedar.) RV Show & Sale starts this Thursday

The 24th Annual Inland Northwest RV Show and Sale is this Thursday, January 19 through Sunday, January 22 at the Spokane County Fair and Expo Center. New office space in Coeur d'Alene

SpaceShare CDA announces the opening of its office space location at 409 Coeur d'Alene Street in downtown Coeur d'Alene. SpaceShare CDA offers individual units/work areas within its building. There are a variety of sizes and price ranges with all of the amenities of a cool work environment, such as WiFi, Conference room with a large monitor/TV and whiteboard, kitchen/break room, utilities, heating and cooling, copy, fax machine and common area cleaning.

SpaceShare was created because there are a lot of small businesses or non-profits who need an office space, but can't afford what is available or don't need a lot of space. SpaceShare is providing affordable spaces that can help businesses out financially and possibly create collaborative efforts for everyone involved.

Denny York new CEO for Fairmount Holdings

Fairmount Holdings, Inc. has named Denny York as the new chief executive officer for Spokane's locally owned and operated Fairmount Holdings, Inc. Mr. York's position was effective January 3, 2012. He replaces Duane Broyles who retired December 31, 2011. Fairmount Holdings operates Spokane's cemeteries.

Mr. York most recently worked for Yoke's Foods, Inc. for the past 20 years. The first 7 years as store director, then as Vice President of Grocery Operations, Marketing, then as Senior Vice President of Store Development, Marketing and Perimeter Department Operations. Denny helped change the concept from Yoke's Pac N' Save to a more upscale approach as Yoke's Fresh Markets.

Gary Pollack appointed to HSSA Board

The Health Sciences & Services Authority (HSSA) of Spokane County has announced that Washington Governor Christine Gregoire has appointed Gary Pollack, Ph.D. to the Health Sciences and Services Authority (HSSA) Board of Directors.

Pollack is the Vice Provost of Health Sciences and Dean of Pharmacy at Washington State University, which he joined in August 2010.

Numerica surprises Salvation Army with donation

Numerica Credit Union surprised the Salvation Army today with a check for $14,000 to support Sally's House, which is in need of our support more than ever due to state budget cuts. The donation is a portion of the $17,000 Numerica employees raised for four community organizations that serve Washington and Idaho. They include: Salvation Army's Sally's House (Serving Spokane and North Idaho), Tri-Cities' My Friend's Place, the Columbia Basin Cancer Foundation in Moses Lake and Solomon's House in Wenatchee.

The donation was raised at Numerica's Annual Benefit Auction. Numerica employees have coordinated the Annual Benefit Auction for the past 20 years. Donations have been given to community organizations such as The Children's Home Society, Cross Walk, Hutton Settlement, Ronald McDonald Charities of Spokane, Hospice, organizations who play a critical role in the prevention of child abuse, and last year's monies were donated to cancer care organizations.

Local Realtor Achieves National Recognition

Sue Lesher with Windermere North has been awarded the Seniors Real Estate Specialist (SRES) designation by the Seniors Real Estate Specialist Council of the National Association of REALTORS (NAR). Lesher joins 39 other real estate professionals in Spokane who have earned the SRES designation. All were required to successfully complete a comprehensive course of study in understanding the needs, considerations, and goals of real estate buyers and sellers aged 55 and older.

Lesher is also one of only 56 Certified Residential Specialists (CRS) in Spokane and serves on the Windermere Relocation Team. She has been a Realtor with Windermere North for over 12 years.
