New restaurant coming to Browne's Addition

Mary Moltke, owner of the Roberts Mansion Bed and Breakfast and Event Center in Browne's Addition is developing a new restaurant in the historic neighborhood at Pacific and Cannon across the street from the Elk. The new bistro, called EJ's Garden Bistro (from the name E.J. Roberts, the original owner of the Roberts Mansion) is located in a 19th century home at 1928 West Pacific. The opening has been delayed until June due to difficulties in renovations to the house and a longer permitting process for the building which is on the national and Spokane Register of Historic places. The home was originally built in 1887 and owned by the Guse family.

The menu will feature traditional fare as well as a variety of dishes with a more eclectic touch. They also plan to use herbs and vegetables that are grown in the Roberts Mansion gardens. The restaurant kitchen will also prepared meals for the Roberts Mansion B&B guests and events. EJ's is expected to have seating for 85 patrons inside and 15 on the patio outside.

STCU to expand services at Ponderay branch

STCU has announced it will expand to full services at the branch it opened three years ago in Ponderay. Laurel Rollins, manager of Bonner County Branch, said STCU made a smart decision in 2009, when it opened the branch at 477181 N. Highway 95. The not-for-profit credit union has been well received, and credit union officials have been impressed by community efforts to spur economic development, and provide residents with a great place to live, learn, work and play.

STCU's Bonner County Branch was the credit union's third in Idaho. It opened as a loan service center. "We have gradually been adding capabilities, such as the ability to accept payments and deposits by check and to complete cash deposits or withdrawals via ATM," Rollins said.

When the branch expands its services on Monday, April 2, members will be able to cash checks, make deposits, get travelers' checks and money orders, and obtain cash advances from Visa cards, among other services.
