Craig Dias Wins 2012 Washington Manufacturing Executive of the Year

Seattle Business magazine has honored Craig Dias, Vice President and General Manager at Haskins Steel Co., Inc. as the Mid-Size Manufacturing Executive of the Year at the third annual Washington Manufacturing Awards recently at the Westin Hotel in Seattle. More than 250 members of the state's manufacturing community attended the event, which featured a keynote speech by Washington Attorney General and 2012 gubernatorial candidate Rob McKenna.

Dias has been instrumental in keeping Haskins efficient and thriving by adding energy efficient equipment, implementing lean management practices and landing ISO 9001 certification. The company increased revenue by 37 percent in one year. They are a vocal advocate of hiring military veterans as well as National Guard members and reservists.

Dias also devotes considerable time to community involvement. Beneficiaries of his time and expertise include the Inland Northwest Lighthouse for the Blind, Greater Spokane Inc., Washington Policy Center and Spokane Area Workforce Development Council.

Kimmel Athletic names new Chief Operating Officer

Kimmel Athletic Supply announced the hiring of David Barnes as Chief Operating Officer effective April 1. Barnes, who has an MBA from University of Phoenix, was previously president and general manager of the DataDot Technology, USA, a technology manufacturing company.

Kimmel Athletic also announced that Dave Trimmer, a 24-year veteran sports writer for the Spokesman-Review has joined the company as a Team Salesman. Trimmer, a graduate of the University of Montana, will sell throughout the Inland Northwest area.

The Company also announced that Kaylen McRae, formerly with Athletic Supply, LLC in Redmond, WA, has been named Marketing Specialist for the company. McRae, a graduate of WSU, has over six years experience in the athletic supply business.

Hanna & Associates gets some national press

Coeur d'Alene-based marketing communications company Hanna & Associates, Inc., was recently featured by Adweek magazine, a leading national trade publication covering media, marketing and related industry technology. Junior Achievement's 2012 Business Hall of Fame this Friday

This Friday, May 11, Junior Achievement will induct Laureates Mike Taylor and Don Kardong into their Business Hall of Fame. The event will be held at The Davenport Hotel's Grand Pennington Ballroom starting at 5:45 pm with a silent auction and reception followed by dinner and a ceremony at 7:00 pm.

Honored Laureate, Mike Taylor, is currently the Director of Engineering Services for the City of Spokane. He founded Taylor Engineering, Inc. in 1985 with more than 30 years of experience designing private and public works improvements projects. Mike will also be a speaker for the event.

Honored Laureate, Don Kardong, is a former Olympic Marathoner, senior writer for Runner's World Magazine, founder of the Lilac Bloomsday Run, and past president of the Road Runners Club of America. He is an author, speaker, consultant, and online coach. Don will also be a speaker for the event.

Kirsten Paul hired at GU

Kristen Paul has recently been hired as the marketing and recruiting specialist for the Gonzaga University Graduate School of Business Administration. This position is responsible for recruiting prospective students to the Master of Business Administration and Master of Accountancy programs, as well as all marketing for the programs. Paul earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in public relations from Gonzaga in 2007.

Spokane CDA Woman Magazine women's luncheon

Spokane CDA Woman magazine presents an afternoon of inspiration, Tuesday, May 15, 11:30am to 1:00pm at The Lincoln Center, with keynote speaker, Judith Spitzer, speaking about domestic violence: the warning signs, the dangers, how to get out of the relationship safely, and the ways in which women can come together to support one another. CDA Casino Resort Executive Chef will be guest chef at the James Beard House in New York

Adam Hegsted, the executive chef at the Coeur d'Alene Casino Resort, has been invited to be a guest chef at the historic James Beard House in Manhattan on Saturday, June 2. The dinner for up 80 guests and industry professionals will feature Adam and his menu exclusively.

The James Beard Foundation is a national not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization based in New York City. It was started to honor chef and author James Beard with the mission to celebrate, preserve, and nurture America's culinary heritage and future. Their annual Beard awards are considered the highest honor for food and beverage professionals working in North America.

Numerica Membership Elects New Board and Supervisory Members

At the April 29, 2012 Annual Meeting of the Membership for Numerica Credit Union, the election results were announced for the Board of Directors and the Supervisory Committee.

The following individuals were elected for three-year terms, ending in 2015:

The Bulldog Tavern in the Gonzaga District has a new name

After over one thousand entries in the 'Name This Bar' contest the building that formally housed the Bulldog Tavern, and the 1305 Club has been officially named the University Bar and Grill. Six different individuals suggested the term 'University' or simply 'U' in the name. These 6 will be honored with bragging rights, their names on a permanent 'Naming Committee' plaque behind the bar, a signature drink named after the group and notoriety on the website, UniversityBarAndGrill.com.

The University Bar and Grill has scheduled their grand opening for the weekend of Gonzaga graduation so parents, students and alumni can participate in the three day event starting Friday morning, May 11th.

A pub has been located at the corner of Hamilton and Sharp for many years, providing a gathering place for neighbors and students alike. Under new ownership, the interior of the building has been fully refurbished, yet retains the warm atmosphere where old friends and new friends can continue to enjoy excellent food and drink.
