Spokane's 'Mad Hatters' prepare for Ronald McDonald House Polo Classic

Finders Keepers II, at 18 West Main, has been the unofficial hat headquarters for the Ronald McDonald House Polo classic since the event began in 2003. With approximately 1200 attendees at the event, and more than half of them women, that is a lot of hats! Every year they sell hundreds of hats and also coordinate the popular 'Hat Parade.'

Finders Keepers II, owned by Deena Caruso and her daughter Allyssa Heiskell, supplies hats in just about every shade and style possible. Their knowledgeable and friendly staff is always available to help ladies customize and bedazzle their hats with feather accents, brooches and more. Finders Keepers II also has hundreds of lovely dresses, shoes and accessories to create the perfect look for the polo field.

And the best part is they also donate 20% of every sale for the Cobra Polo Classic to the Ronald McDonald House of Spokane!

CdA's Wine Cellar moves above ground

After 20 years underground, Coeur d'Alene's popular Wine Cellar restaurant has reopened next door at 317 E. Sherman Avenue. The new location extends from the basement onto two additional floors. They can also now serve cocktails in addition to wine. Spokane's HDG Design Group did the design. Capacity is for 103 diners on the main floor and there is a private dining room seating 30 on the mezzanine. Menus and other information can be found at www.thewinecellarcda.com.

Capone's to open in Hayden

Another popular north Idaho restaurant, Capone's with locations in Coeur d'Alene and Post Falls plans to open in Hayden in the former Cory's Furniture location at Hayden Avenue and Government Way after the first of the year. They are awaiting city approval for the project.

Davenport Spa and salon set to open in September

The Davenport Hotel has announced the opening of the Davenport Spa and Salon, to be anchored in the 98-year-old Pompeian Room of the grand hotel.

This 7,000 sq. foot spa was the location of the original barber shop. The spa is currently under renovation and will open September 4th. It will be a full service spa offering a variety of health and wellness services, to include; skin care, body care, massage therapy, hair care and nail care. The spa will introduce several unique services that are state-of-the-art and new to this area and will create over thirty new jobs. The website is davenportspa.com.

Hop Jack's is hopping into town

Hop Jack's, a Western Washington restaurant chain with locations including Issaquah, Bonney Lake and Lacey, will open a 4,500-square-foot restaurant at the Spokane Pavilion retail center at 9265 N. Nevada (at Jay street) this October. The $1.4 million project is being built by Kilgore construction. Other tenants of Spokane Pavilion shopping center include Winco Foods and MacKenzie River Pizza.

Kristin Monasmith joins the Girl Scouts (as event specialist)

Kristin Monasmith has been hired as an events specialist for Girl Scouts Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho. She was previously a public relations and events specialist for Shriners Hospitals for Children in Spokane.

Sterling Bank Opening Branch in Pullman

Sterling Bank has announced plans to open a new branch in Pullman, Wash., in early 2013 to serve new consumer and business customers.

"Sterling has been working to create a presence in Pullman to help extend our Palouse footprint," said Ezra Eckhardt, president of Sterling Bank. "We continue to look for ways to improve lives and strengthen communities, and are excited to introduce our Sterling brand of service to the Pullman community."

The new Sterling Bank branch will be located at 225 N. Grand Ave., at The Depot, and will occupy approximately 2,300 square feet. Sterling currently has two other branches in Whitman County, one in Colfax and the other in LaCrosse, which opened in July 2012. Sterling has 30 branches in eastern Washington. In total Sterling operates 187 branches in five western states.

Still some space left for the ultimate Girl Scout camping experience

There are still some spaces left for the Girl Scouts of Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho's Annual Women's Weekend, scheduled for the weekend after Labor Day, September 7 - 9, 2012. This is a weekend of fun and friendship, exquisite meals and amazing activities and pampering...all on the shores of Lake Coeur d'Alene at the magnificent and historic Camp Four Echoes, a Girl Scout owned and operated camp in Windy Bay. Beacon Hill Events will cater the event. Activities include kayaking and paddle boarding, henna tattoos, belly dance lessons, pottery painting, spa services and more.

New associate attorneys at Lukins & Annis

Kelly Konkright and Brian Guthrie have joined Lukins and Annis P.S. as associate attorneys. Konkright has a bachelor's degree from Lewis-Clark State College and earned a juris doctorate from the University of Idaho School of Law. He was previously deputy city attorney for the City of Spokane. Guthrie who holds bachelor's and law degrees from the University of Washington previously worked in Seattle practicing construction litigation.

AAF Spokane seeks Executive Director

AAF Spokane is now accepting applications for their Executive Director position. Fleet Feet Sports Spokane is a locally-owned and operated franchise of Fleet Feet Sports, Inc, a national specialty retailer dedicated to providing quality products, excellent value and expert advice to runners, walkers and fitness enthusiasts of all levels. Fleet Feet's custom shoe-fitting process involves analyzing a customer's foot, natural biomechanics, and stride by fit experts trained to recognize the unique characteristics of the athlete. SCORE presents 'How to Use Social Media for Your Business'

In less than a year, the Peacock's revenue has tripled. In that same time, the client base has expanded beyond Spokane, where Peacock's offices are located, to Idaho, California, Texas, and New Hampshire.

HSSA Awards Nearly $325,000 in Health Care Access Grants

The Health Sciences & Services Authority (HSSA) of Spokane County announced that it has awarded a total of nearly $325,000 in one-year grants to increase access to health care for the under- and uninsured in Spokane County.

The grant awardees are as follows: Community Health Association of Spokane (CHAS) will receive $100,000; Partners with Families & Children will receive $38,877; Project Access will receive $100,000; Spokane Prescription Assistance will receive $30,000.

Ron Burgett joins Red Lion Hotels

Red Lion Hotels Corp. has hired Ron Burgett as executive vice president of brand development. He was previously executive vice president of development for Northcott Hospitality and has nearly 20 years of related experience.

New officers and directors for Spokane County United Way

Spokane County United Way board of directors elected Tom Stevenson as board chairman for a three-year term. Stevenson is a retired partner of Moss Adams LLP. New directors include: Carla Altepeter of Numerica Credit Union; Carrie Creshier of Travelers Companies; Barbara Doyle of Itron; Kim Ferraro of West Central Community Center; Dan Johnson of The Spokesman-Review; Rob McCann of Catholic Charities of Spokane; Shelley Redinger of Spokane Public Schools; Ken Schumacher of Wells Fargo Bank; and Dennis Vermillion of Avista Utilities Corp.

Gleason Gras! West festival comes later this month

The first annual Gleason Gras! West festival, a benefit for Team Gleason, is a grassroots indie music festival with world class local, regional, and nationally known talent including, Left Hand Smoke, Hey Marseilles, Emily Wells and all the way from Australia, guitarist Blake Noble. The event also features a silent auction, raffle, and special guest appearances.

Team Gleason was founded by Steve Gleason who grew up in Spokane. Steve was a football standout at Gonzaga Prep High School, Washington State University, and with The New Orleans Saints from 2000-2008. As a counter-culture athlete who spent his off-season adventuring in third world countries, he will always be remembered for his blocked punt on the night the Louisiana Superdome reopened for the first time after Hurricane Katrina. Steve's passion for life and strong work ethic act as a model for us all.

In 2011, Steve was diagnosed with ALS, considered a terminal neuro-muscular disease. Beyond his faith that there is a solution to heal, it is his mission to show that patients can not only live but thrive after this diagnosis. In doing so, he hopes to inspire others to do the same.

Festival to be held Friday August 31 at Saranac Public House/Red Lion BBQ and Pub and on Saturday September 1 at The Bing Crosby Theater.
