INBA Launches an LGBT Wedding Resource Guide in its 2013 Business Directory

The Inland Northwest Business Alliance (INBA) debuts the 17th edition of their Business Directory, complete with a wedding resource guide for gay and lesbian couples in the region, at its Directory Launch Party on February 6, 4:30-7 pm at Impulse Lounge at Northern Quest Resort and Casino.

"Our organization is about connecting members of the business community with our LGBT and ally consumers, which, after the passage of Referendum 74 in Washington state, has opened up a new market for those professionals who provide wedding services," states Marvo Reguindin, general manager of INBA. "Now that marriage is an option for loving couples throughout the state of Washington, they have a lot of planning to do-and it makes sense for us to help our member businesses provide those services to them."

The first INBA Business Directory was created to provide the LGBT community a free resource of companies and services they could patronize without fear of discrimination which is still true today.

The Directory Launch Party is free and open to the public, and will feature music, appetizers networking, door prizes and more. Drink specials are also available at the no-host bar. Printed copies of the new directory will be on-hand for pickup at the event, while the online directory (www.inbaspokane.org/directory) is updated.

"Everyone is welcome to attend the event and learn more about INBA member business and organizations. This is a great opportunity to connect with gay-owned and gay-friendly businesses throughout the region," says Marvo.

More information about the event can be found on INBA's Facebook page: www.facebook.com/INBASpokane.

Spokane and Boise led Habitat Restoration project wins ACEC Gold Award

The Washington chapter of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) honored GeoEngineers' Walla Walla River Habitat Restoration project with a Best-in-State Gold Award for Social, Economic and Sustainable Design Considerations. ACEC's annual Engineering Excellence Awards, the industry's most prestigious awards program, salutes engineering achievements demonstrating the highest degree of merit and ingenuity.

Staff from GeoEngineers' Spokane and Boise offices played a leading role in the Walla Walla River project. Jason Scott, CFP (Spokane) served as the lead biologist during this important project. The restoration project increases fish habitat while decreasing flooding.

GeoEngineers worked with the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation and a local landowner to develop concepts for removing a portion of levee just upstream from Milton-Freewater and reconnecting the river with its traditional floodplain. Levees and other artificial constraints on the river's natural boundaries help reduce flood risk near the town of Milton-Freewater, Oregon. However, the levees also limit fish-rearing habitat for endangered fish species such as bull trout, steelhead and spring Chinook. Removing levees was one way to create new habitat, but area residents expressed concern that such an approach could expose the area to increased flood risk. The project's ambitious goal was to dramatically increase fish habitat while simultaneously increasing the river's natural ability to absorb flooding during peak flows.

GeoEngineers is an integrated earth science, engineering and technology firm with offices in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, California, Utah, Louisiana and Missouri. GeoEngineers specializes in crafting unique environmental, ecological, geotechnical and applied technology solutions for the water and natural resource, transportation, energy, federal and development sectors. For more information, visit GeoEngineers on the web at www.geoengineers.com.

Eat Red Robin Gourmet Burgers and help Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery

The Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery is once again partnering with Red Robin Gourmet Burgers, Inc. to host the 13th annual 'Burgers With A Heart' fundraiser and celebrate the full transformation of Red Robin's four Spokane-area restaurants including Coeur d'Alene. The week-long event will kick off Monday, Feb. 4 to raise funds for the Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery, a safe haven for Spokane-area children who are at risk of abuse and neglect. From Feb. 4-10, the newly redesigned Red Robin restaurants will donate 50 cents from every gourmet burger sold to the Crisis Nursery. Local celebrities along with local high school students will assist Red Robin in raising additional funds for the Crisis Nursery by selling paper hearts for $1 to Red Robin guests during the fundraiser.

Last year alone, Red Robin raised nearly $12,000 to support at-risk children in the Inland Northwest. Red Robin serves more than two dozen high-quality gourmet burgers in a variety of recipes along with appetizers, entrees, salads and signature beverages.

Red Robin has three restaurants in Spokane and one in Coeur d’Alene including:
- 725 West Main Ave. (across from River Park Square in Downtown Spokane)
- 9904 N. Newport Hwy. (in the Northpointe Shopping Center across from Best Buy)
- 14736 East Indiana Ave. (on the north side of the mall across from Macy's)
- 1501 W. Riverstone Dr., Coeur d'Alene (located in the River Stone Plaza)

Red Robin reports the fundraiser has raised more than $195,000 in the last twelve years to provide safety and comfort to more than 585 at-risk children in our community.

During the fundraiser, local television celebrities will make appearances at the Spokane-area's redesigned Red Robin restaurants to sell specially-designed Red Robin hearts for $1, which will directly support the Crisis Nursery. In addition, Spokane-area high school students will participate in 'Spirit with a Heart,' special school spirit nights at one of the three Spokane-area restaurants. On these nights, students will sell the $1 Red Robin hearts to guests to raise additional funds for the Crisis Nursery.
