Sante's Jeremy Hansen takes Spokane cuisine to the James Beard House

Chef Jeremy Hansen, owner of Sante Restaurant & Charcuterie at 404 West Main, next to Auntie's Bookstore, has been asked to cook dinner at the world renowned chef and food critic James Beard House in New York City this Thursday, August 15th. They will be featuring food and wine from Spokane and the Inland Northwest, in fact, everything except the salt and sugar will be from our community.

Since they will be taking most of their team to this prestigious event, operation of Sante this week Tuesday through Sunday hours are 9am-3pm for breakfast and lunch, no dinner service. Sante will also feature sandwiches that you can grab and enjoy in the park or where ever your lunch break takes you.

Sante also has a new project that will be unveiled soon. Butcher Bar will be opening at the end of the summer. They will be featuring craft cocktails, cocktail pairings with their cuisine, late night bar menu and more. Along with the opening of the bar, Sante will be opening for dinner all seven nights of the week. The construction doesn't stop there. They are knocking out a wall to create an open kitchen, allowing them to offer a faster deli sandwich and charcuterie by the pound program.

Sante's website is www.SanteSpokane.com and the phone number is 509-315-4613.

Convention hotel project continues to move forward

The Spokane Public Facilities District Board of Directors, at its August meeting tomorrow, will consider approving an agreement with Convention Center Hotel, LLC to develop a nationally branded, high-rise 'convention hotel' on a large parcel of downtown Spokane property.

The Joint Development Agreement, which has been signed by Davenport Hotel Collection owners Walt and Karen Worthy, allows the development of a full city block just south of the INB Performing Arts Center of a 721-room hotel with 70,000 square feet of meeting space which includes a 20,000 sf ballroom and a 900-space parking garage.

The 120,000 square foot city block along Spokane Falls Boulevard between Bernard and Washington is currently used for public parking, however, its long term future, as outlined in the District's Vision 20/20 strategic planning document, calls for the property to be used for Spokane Convention Center enhancements. The development of a new convention hotel was a key trigger to moving forward with further enhancements. The two agreements guarantee District ownership of 300 public parking spaces for INB and Convention Center patrons. In addition, the District has plans to connect the new hotel and the Convention Center via a skywalk over Spokane Falls Boulevard.

Extensive environmental clean-up has already been performed on the property, but the District will provide up to $500,000 for any required additional hazardous substances remediation. A performance guarantee will be provided by the Convention Center Hotel, LLC that will be released when the hotel roof in is in place.

"These kinds of projects are very complicated," said District CEO Kevin Twohig. "But the Worthy's and their staff have been a pleasure to work with. We know that a nationally branded hotel such as the one the Worthy Group is set to build means Spokane will be able to compete with larger cities which will benefit the entire region."

The Worthy's, who own and operate The Davenport Hotel Collection, announced in September 2012 their intention to construct what would be the city's largest building and indicated at the time that the District owned property is the best site.
