New AAA office opens today on south hill

Spokane's main AAA office opens today in the former Savory restaurant building at 1314 South Grand, offering travel services, 24-hour roadside assistance, plus travel, insurance and automotive services. They had previously been located at 1717 West Fourth Avenue and will be closing that office. AAA will hold an open house at the new office Monday May 12 through Friday May 16.

Lisa Diffley new event and membership manager for the MAC

The Northwest Museum of Arts & Culture has announced that Lisa Diffley has joined its development staff as the museum's events and membership manager. Diffley previously served as the executive director of Spokane's Women Helping Women Fund, and played a key role in raising $3.5 million since 2007.

Diffley, a graduate of Washington State University, has an extensive background in event management, served as a private foundation trustee overseeing $10 million in assets, and has diverse experience in nonprofit board service and community volunteerism.

In addition to membership development, Diffley will coordinate the museum's fundraising events: Mother's Day Historic Home Tour, ArtFest and Art Auction: Making Art Count. The MAC recently opened 100 Stories: A Centennial Exhibition as a prelude to its 100th anniversary celebration in 2016.

Spokane Business & Economic Symposium & Luncheon May 7

Join business leaders from the Inland Northwest at this special event to feature keynote speaker Nick Hanauer, Author, Civic Activist, Venture Capitalist and Entrepreneur. Symposium to be held at the Davenport Hotel, Elizabethan Room, Wednesday, May 7 from 11:30am to 1:30pm. The event will be hosted by PacifiCAD and will benefit a local Spokane charity, Generation Alive.
This symposium is an effort to bring a fresh perspective to Spokane's economic outlook. Mr. Hanauer suggests that we approach the economic difficulties we face with long-term investment in and support for the middle class. He contends that this approach will ultimately pay dividends to all in our economy.

NUDO ramen bar to open downtown

Owners of the architect and design firm HDG, Josh Hissong and Armando Hurtado, are set to open Nudo, a ramen restaurant, in the next two weeks at 818 W. Sprague Avenue across from tbe Davenport Hotel in downtown Spokane. The new restaurant will be located next to Fire Artisan Pizza, which Hissong and Hurtado also designed.

Nudo will specialize in Asian noodle dishes. It is scheduled to open May 10. You can learn more on their facebook page.

State Rep. Kevin Parker named 'Citizen of the Year' by Washington REALTORS

State Rep. Kevin Parker has been named Citizen of the Year by Washington Association of REALTORS. Statewide awards were also presented to the following Spokane REALTORS: Marilyn Amato, Spokane REALTOR of the Year. Craig Soehren, Commercial REALTOR of the Year. And Terry Sullivan, Lifetime Membership.

Washington REALTORS is the state's largest professional organization with more than 15,000 members across Washington state.

UHSCU Awards Memorial College Scholarships

United Health Services Credit Union has selected its winners for the UHSCU Memorial Scholarship. Four $1,000 college scholarships have been awarded to UHSCU members for the 2014-2015 school year. The winners are: Ashley Benedict, Psychology, Eastern Washington University; Hope Caruthers, Respiratory Care Program, Spokane Community College; Winifred Tupailesa, Incoming Freshman, Whitworth University; and Jay Wolfer, Mechanical Engineering, University of Washington.

Angela Landgraf joins Red Lion Hotels

Red Lion Hotels Corporation has announced the addition of Angela Landgraf as Senior Vice President of Business Development. To capitalize on the expansion prospects for Red Lion into leading markets around the country, she will manage hotel acquisitions and development. In her role, she will also act as a liaison between the company and hotel owners to facilitate hotel conversion opportunities for Red Lion.

Landgraf has more than 20 years of business development and sales experience in the hospitality industry, specializing in hotel real estate and operations for independent luxury boutique hotels and branded full service and select-service hotels. Prior to joining Red Lion, Landgraf was Senior Vice President of Business Development & Management Services for Richfield Hospitality for nearly five years.

She has also worked in management services for Sage Hospitality, and real estate business development and operations both for Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide and for InterContinental Hotel Group.

Spokane Regional MarCom Association 2014 Spark Awards Winners

Gonzaga University's '125th Anniversary campaign', RESCUE! Pest Control Products' 'April Fool/Stink Bug Trap', Desautel Hege Communications and Coordinated Care's billboards, and Gonzaga University's 'To Build Up a Great University: Report of the President' were the stars of the Spark Awards on April 16 at The Lincoln Center.

The Spark Awards are presented by the Spokane Regional Marketing and Communications Association (Spokane MarCom) to recognize the best work by local marketing, communications and public relations professionals. Local professionals submitted more than 50 entries ranging from publications and feature stories to website design and media relations campaigns. The award entries were judged by local professionals in the marketing and communications field that did not submit entries for this year's awards. The top entries out of all submissions received Brightest Spark Awards.

The Brightest Spark Award recipients were as follows: 'April Fool/Stink Bug Trap', RESCUE! Pest Control Products; 'Gonzaga 125th Anniversary', Gonzaga University; 'Coordinated Care Billboard', Desautel Hege Communications & Coordinated Care, 'To Build Up a Great University: Report of the President', Gonzaga University.

The new Blaze Award honoring the best of Division 2 Campaign entries was awarded to RESCUE! Pest Control Products for their 'April Fool/Stink Bug Trap' entry. Judges noted that this entry was clear and concise, and the campaign was fun and innovative. It stood above the rest due to its creativity, organization, measurable results and consistent message.

The Dussault Community Impact Award was awarded at the discretion of the judges for a campaign/program that demonstrated clear impact within the Spokane community. The winner of the Dussault Community Impact Award was Gonzaga University's 125th Anniversary campaign.

The judges noted that for so many, the Gonzaga community is also the Spokane community. The impact the campaign had for Gonzaga has a ripple effect across the entire Spokane community and our region. Alumni and students are woven throughout Spokane so the pride and goodwill created by the campaign extended beyond the campus.

The judges also awarded Excellence and Merit Awards for multiple categories based upon specified criteria. For a complete list of 2014 winners go to SpokaneMarCom.org.

Four new employees at Visit Spokane

Visit Spokane announces the appointment of four new employees to the team. Largely focused in the sales department, this group will contribute to Visit Spokane's overall efforts to market the Spokane region as an ideal destination for meetings and conventions and leisure travel.

Lisa McHaffie has been named Director of National Accounts. In her new position, Lisa will work with meeting planners to bring meetings and conventions to the Spokane region. Lisa previously worked at the Raddison Seattle Airport and at The Coeur d'Alene Resort as a National Sales Manager.

Joanne Ross has been named Sales Associate. In her new position, Joanne will assist the Directors of National Accounts at Visit Spokane. Joanne has worked in hotel and restaurant operations, sales and catering in Hawaii, Los Angeles and San Diego. Most recently, she was the Catering Sales Manager at Red Lion Templin's Hotel & Resort in Post Falls.

Jody Chambers has been named Executive Assistant. She will serve as a liaison between the sales and marketing department at Visit Spokane. Jody's most recent experience includes working at General Dynamic Itronix as a Trade Show and Events Manager and Sonderen Packaging as a Customer Service Representative.

Ashley Reese has been named Convention Services Coordinator. Ashley will assist with event details for booked conventions and meetings coming to Spokane. She will also manage Visit Spokane's housing program, which helps meeting planners block hotel rooms for their conventions. Prior to joining Visit Spokane, Ashley worked in sales and catering positions at The Davenport Hotel and The Glover Mansion.

Crown West Realty completes 15 year lease with Core-Mark

Crown West Realty announces the completion of a 15-year lease with Core-Mark International, Inc. for a 50,000 square foot expansion to their current distribution center within the Spokane Business & Industrial Park (The Park). When finished, the high bay, concrete-tilt building will total 150,000 square feet. Vandervert Construction has been selected as the contractor and is expected to complete the multi-million dollar project in the fourth quarter of 2014. Dean Stuart, Crown West Realty's Director of Marketing and Sales completed the deal.

Core-Mark International, Inc. distributes food, beverages, general merchandise, and sundries to supermarkets, grocery and convenience stores.

Trindera Engineering hires James Fawson

Trindera Engineering, an electrical and control systems engineering and consulting firm based in Coeur d'Alene and Spokane, announces the recent hiring of James Fawson as Electrical Project Engineer for the Municipal Department.

Fawson will be the Electrical Project Engineer for a variety of municipal, commercial, and industrial projects at Trindera. He has a B.S. in Electrical/Electronics Engineering from California State University. Fawson recently was the Associate Engineer at Pro Unlimited, Inc. in Sacramento.

Southsiders Toastmasters Club Open House Today

Southsiders Toastmasters Club at St. Luke's Rehabilitation Center invites the community to a free Open House today, April 28. "Toastmasters provides a supportive and positive environment where members have the opportunity to develop their communication and leadership skills," says Kathy Hansen, Division Governor presiding over clubs in the Spokane area.
