Post Falls Auto Auction opens to the public Saturday, July 26

Post Falls Auto Auction, a new way to buy and sell vehicles, will hold its first auction July 26th. And unlike most auto auctions, this one is open to the public. Cameron Jones is the owner of this unique business. He has been a wildland fire fighter for the U.S. Forest Service for the past 9 years. He loved what he was doing, but he lives in Post Falls, his wife works in downtown Spokane while he worked out of Trout Creek Montana. The have been married for 3 years, but felt like they rarely saw each other. So about 2 years ago Cam started brain storming to come up with ideas of something he could do that would be of interest to him and also keep him closer to home. As Cam was growing up in the Seattle area, some neighbors and good friends, owned an auction company. Cam was exposed to it from a young age and was always intrigued by the business. So when attempting to come up with an idea for a new business, some type of auction business was high on his list.

He had the very good fortune of finding an auction company in Nampa Idaho that featured trucks and cars, and was for sale. He conducted his due diligence for over a year and early this year completed the acquisition of this company. The company is called Trucks and Auto Auction and is the largest public auto auction in Idaho. The web address is www.nampaauction.com. The company has been in operation for 10 years. The people Cam purchased the business from have grown up in the auction business in the family and had been very successful, but were ready to retire and move to Maui.

Cam decided he and his wife did not want to move full time to the Boise area, so he opted to hire a good friend as his General Manager in Nampa, and open a new version of the same business in Post Falls. The first order of business was finding a facility that would work. It had to be in the 4 to 5 acre range, have a structure that was large enough and would lend itself to an auto auction, had to be zoned correctly, etc. This was no small task. After looking at dozens of possible sites, he found the location where Post Falls Auto Auction will do business, and purchased the site in January of this year. The facility is located at 1094 N. McGuire Rd in Post Falls. It was built in 2005 as a new home for Duncan Marine. The front building which is 10,500 sq feet, served as a shop, and retail area for Duncan. The back building is 24,000 square feet and was used to store boats, cars and RV's, typically during the winter.

Now the front building will be the main check in and sales area for Post Falls Auto Auction, as well as where the auctions will take place, under cover in a huge shop area. The back building will be used to store cars as they are brought in prior to each auction.

The inaugural auction will be on Saturday July 26th 2014. After that auctions will run every 3 weeks, always on Saturdays. For more information got to Postfallsautoauction.com.


COGO Capital, The Private Money Company, hosting Mid-Year Regional Economic event with Shaun Higgins on July 10

To better understand the current regional economy, COGO Capital, The Private Money Company, is holding a special presentation on mid-year economic facts July 10 at their 4610 N. Division, Spokane location. Sorting through the information and sharing its impact on local businesses will be Shaun O'L. Higgins. He has been pouring through the data and will be answering questions such as: How has the Spokane-Coeur d'Alene MSA economy performed for the first half of 2014? And, where is the local economy headed for the next 12 to 18 months?

In addition to the valuable information shared by Higgins, COGO Capital is hosting a BBQ where those interested can learn about private, peer-to-peer lending, a key part of the improving housing market. STCU partners with Avista Center for Entrepreneurship at SCC to help launch new small businesses in Spokane

Help make a difference in our community by getting involved with the Avista Center for Entrepreneurship at Spokane Community College to help launch new small businesses.

Launching more small businesses can be the catalyst for economic recovery and development in our region. Avista has given more than $100,000 to start the Center for Entrepreneurship at Spokane Community College (SCC) as part of a larger regional initiative by the company to help aspiring entrepreneurs get launched and have the necessary support to become successful. On top of that, Avista has created a $500,000 revolving micro-loan fund to help those who have completed their studies. The program has already created more than 40 small businesses. However, the challenge is the SCC program has a $50k funding gap to fill this year to become self-sustaining.

Now, STCU, is offering a one-for-one match up to $10,000, for donations made online through the recent Spokane start-up Crowdswell platform. Follow it on Twitter : #LaunchSpokane or @FoundationCCS.

Help is needed to make the program sustainable and create more startups in Spokane. Every penny raised will directly support the students and programs at the Center for Entrepreneurship through scholarships, program support, and enhancement of the innovative micro-enterprise loan fund to provide necessary start-up capital for program graduates.

The Integrated Business and Entrepreneurship Program (IBE) at SCC is an innovative, interdisciplinary approach to training future business leaders and entrepreneurs in our region. Graduates of the IBE program leave prepared to succeed in entrepreneurial ventures or as leaders within existing organizations. Additionally, qualified program graduates have access to low-interest micro-enterprise loans to assist in their business start-up costs and provide access to the capital that is so critical for startup businesses. Through this partnership with Avista, local entrepreneurs are learning how to launch successful enterprises.

Incyte Diagnostics welcomes new Hematopathologist

Incyte Diagnostics welcomes a new hematopathologist, Stephen H. Hooper, M.D. Dr. Hooper is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology and hematopathology. Hematopathologists work closely with area oncologists to decide the best treatment for patients with diseases of the blood, bone marrow and lymph nodes.

Dr. Hooper graduated from the University of Missouri School of Medicine and completed his residency at the Walter Reed National Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. He was a physician in the U.S. Armed Forces for 20 years prior to arriving in Spokane. Dr. Hooper joined Incyte Diagnostics in June.


15th Annual Scramble for Hospice August 1

Hospice of Spokane's Scramble for Hospice golf tournament will be held Friday, August 1 at Indian Canyon Golf Course. All proceeds benefit the Hospice Houses.

Shotgun start is 1:30pm. Check in begins at 12:15. Cost is $100 per person and includes greens fees, golf cart, prizes and dinner.

Since 1977, Hospice of Spokane has provided quality hospice care for terminally ill patients and their families throughout our community. Since opening their first house in 2007, they have served more than 2,700 patients. Hospice Houses are homelike facilities that care for hospice patients in their last days or weeks of life. Hospice of Spokane is the only non-profit Hospice in northeast Washington.

RiverBank Receives $2.9 Million of Capital

RiverBank Holding Company's Board of Directors announced the acceptance on June 30, 2014 of $3 million of new capital raised in a fully subscribed private placement offering. Net proceeds of $2.9 million from the offering have been downstreamed to RiverBank, a wholly owned subsidiary of RiverBank Holding Company. The proceeds will strengthen the bank's capital position while supporting its growth strategy to become the bank of choice for local small businesses and professionals.

Cenex ZipTrip Stores set to raise money for backpacks and school supplies

Cenex Zip Trip stores across Spokane and Coeur d'Alene have launched their Backpacks For Kids campaign with The Salvation Army of Spokane. The campaign will run through July 31st at all Cenex Zip Trip stores. Any customer, who donates $1-dollar or more to the campaign will receive a coupon good for one free 20oz. fountain drink at their next Cenex Zip Trip visit.

Last year, Cenex Zip Trip raised more than $26,000 for children in need. The money raised goes to purchase much needed backpacks and school supplies for children whose parents cannot afford the basic supplies required by the school districts. All monies raised stay locally to fund the backpacks for children in Spokane. The Salvation Army plans to hand out more than 4,000 backpacks filled with supplies this year. RLHC opens new franchise in Renton, Washington

Red Lion Hotels Corporation (NYSE: RLH) announced the company has opened a new franchise location in Renton, Wash., after signing an agreement with the owners in June. This is the sixth franchise agreement completed by the company in 2014. The Red Lion Hotel & Conference Center - Seattle/Renton, 1 S. Grady Way, is located at one of the busiest interchanges south of Seattle and Bellevue.

The hotel was formerly the Holiday Inn before recently becoming an independent property, the Rainier Hotel and Conference Center. The property features the Yankee Grill Restaurant, an outdoor pool and heated whirlpool, fitness center and complimentary Wi-Fi. With 7,000 square feet of meeting space, the hotel is known for its meetings and events. The city of Renton is on the south shore of Lake Washington in the Puget Sound, just six miles from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. The hotel provides easy proximity to key Boeing training and manufacturing facilities, destination shopping at The Landing in Renton and one of the largest malls in the Northwest, Westfield Southcenter. Kent Schultz appointed as Chief Credit Officer of RiverBank

Major rebranding of Travelodge on Spokane Falls Blvd to Best Western Plus

Spokane Falls Inn, LLC, owned by Spokane residents Wayne and Mary Paupst, has announced the completion of a nearly one million dollar renovation and rebranding of the Travelodge Spokane at the Convention Center to the Best Western Plus City Center.

The property on Spokane Falls Boulevard across from the Convention Center and Riverfront Park has been family-owned and operated since its inception in 1996. Meredith Rainville, who has national hotel franchise industry experience, and is a co-owner with her parents of the property, will continue as the General Manager for the Best Western Plus City Center. Two new consultants at Spring Environmental, Inc.

Jeanne Finger and Katerina Ternovets have joined Spring Environmental, Inc., both as environmental, health & safety (EH&S) consultants.
