Providence announces expansion plans

Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center & Children's Hospital has announced plans for a $19.2 million expansion and remodel of its adult cardiac intensive care unit. Construction is scheduled to start Monday and to be completed in spring of 2016. The project will add 12 critical-care beds to the unit, giving it a total of 34 beds there, in a first phase of improvements. The second phase is slated to involve modernizing the current, 22-bed unit. Providence Sacred Heart will continue to admit patients with critical heart conditions throughout the construction process. Bouten Construction is the contractor.

YWCA Calls for Woman of Achievement Nominations

YWCA of Spokane is calling for nominations for its 2014 Woman of Achievement Awards. The deadline for submissions is August 15, 2014. For 32 years, YWCA of Spokane has celebrated high achieving women in the community at this annual luncheon. This year, the event will be held at the Spokane Convention Center on October 1.

Established with the goal of increasing community awareness and appreciation for the diverse contributions of women leaders in Spokane, this luncheon has honored over 200 women in the region. Winners of a YWCA Woman of Achievement award must embody the mission of the YWCA by giving generously of themselves to make Spokane a better place for all citizens to live. They must also demonstrate leadership through their professional work or service to the community.

The YWCA encourages nominations for YWCA Woman of Achievement awards in the following areas:
- Arts & Culture

- Carl J. Maxey Racial & Social Justice Award
- Community Enhancement
- Education
- Science, Technology & Environment

Louie Davenport tribute today at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery



Today, a new monument will be dedicated in honor of Louis Davenport at Riverside Memorial Park cemetery, just in time to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of the opening of the Davenport Hotel. Riverside Memorial Park on Government way will be hosting the unveiling of the monument on Monday, July 28th at 2:00 pm.

This event is sponsored by Fairmount Memorial Association in cooperation with the Spokane Police Department History Book Committee, the Spokane Law Enforcement Museum, Jonas Babcock Chapter, the Daughters of the American Revolution and the family of Louis Davenport. Following the ceremony there will be a reception at the Heritage Funeral Home with desserts provided by the Davenport Hotel.

RLHC Lists Bellevue property. The Red Lion Hotel Bellevue



Red Lion Hotels Corporation announced the company has listed for sale its hotel in Bellevue, Wash. The property totals six acres along the I-405 corridor and is one of the most developable sites in the region.

The Red Lion Hotel Bellevue, 11211 Main Street, is adjacent to a planned light-rail stop on the $2.8 billion Sound Transit East Link extension at 112 Avenue SE and Main Street. Constructed in 1969, the two-story hotel has 181 rooms and 5,700 sq. ft. of meeting space.

Ron DeRoche named RiverBank SVP Commercial Banking Officer

RiverBank CEO Daniel Byrne announced that RiverBank has appointed Ron DeRoche as SVP, Commercial Banking Officer. Mr. DeRoche comes to RiverBank with 28 years of banking experience, the last 20 years he has specialized in agricultural lending. Mr. DeRoche looks forward to continuing to serve the farms and businesses of the communities in eastern Washington with his professional banking expertise.

Ron is currently the past-Chairman of the Advisory Board for the Lewiston/Clarkston Salvation Army, and has been a past member of the Clarkston Education Foundation Board, the Oregon Bankers Association Agricultural Committee and the past President of the Kiwanis in Junction City, OR.

Mr. DeRoche graduated from University of Idaho in 1986 with a B.S. in Agriculture Economics.

First Friday Dinner Concert in Riverfront Park August 1

Continuing the 40th Anniversary celebration of Expo and this month's first Friday, there will be a very special six course dinner in Riverfront Park at The Fountain Cafe, with great music to match on Friday, August 1 from 5:30-8:30pm.

Leadership Spokane Appoints New Executive Director

The Leadership Spokane Board of Trustees has announced the appointment of Colonel Brian M. Newberry as the organization's new Executive Director, effective August 1. Leadership Spokane worked with Red & Associates to conduct a search to replace current Executive Director Linda Finney following her retirement on June 30.

Colonel Brian M. Newberry was the Commander, 92nd Air Refueling Wing at Fairchild Air Force Base. Rex Fuller, incoming chair of the Leadership Spokane Board of Directors had this to say about the new Executive Director: "We are very excited to have Colonel Newberry join Leadership Spokane. His experience in leading the men and women under his command will form a foundation for developing the leadership potential of individuals to assume key leadership roles in the greater Spokane region. I am certain that Colonel Newberry will build on the strong foundation established under Linda Finney and work with the Board to lead the organization to new heights".

Greater Spokane Meals on Wheels has Free Ice Cream!

This Friday, August 1 from 10am to 2pm is Free ice cream day! Greater Spokane County Meals on Wheels will be serving up ice cream at their Silver Cafe, 4803 N Nevada. Donations gladly accepted to benefit Spokane County Meals on Wheels.

Spokane Meals On Wheels provides hot, delivered meals to the frail elderly and homebound in Spokane County. They service over 400 homes daily on 40 routes and the need is still increasing. Their service area will soon increase to 42 routes that rely daily on volunteer drivers. They also operate 13 senior meal sites, and a Silver Cafe.
