Special Olympics Annual Breakfast of Champions October 14

Special Olympics of Washington's 12th Annual Breakfast of Champions will be held Tuesday, October 14, from 7:30-8:45am at the Davenport Hotel. Attendees will enjoy a hot breakfast, while being inspired by the persistence, courage & spirit of local athletes. This is the organization's signature event to raise funds and awareness for individuals with intellectual disabilities within the East Region.

At this year's event, special guest is 7-time Olympic Gold Medalist and The New York Times Best Seller, Amanda Beard, who made her Olympic debut at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, winning one gold and two silver medals. Over the next two Olympic games, Amanda won another gold medal, two silvers, and a bronze. She also holds eight national titles and is a former world record holder. She is author of In the Water They Can't See You Cry, which earned recognition as a New York Times best seller. This riveting memoir revealed the truth behind the Olympic spotlight, shedding light on the obstacles she faced along the way and her new-found happiness as a mother.

Also speaking at the event is Special Olympics Athlete and Global Messenger John Franklin Stephens. Frank is an Actor, Author, and Advocate. He co-starred in the feature length film, Touched By Grace. Frank has also authored a screenplay entitled Common Dreams, and is currently working on another based on his passion for doo-wop music of the 1950s. Frank has been recently recognized for his advocacy and introduced by President Obama at a White House dinner honoring Special Olympics and A Unified Generation.

Limited seats are still available for the breakfast. Contact Jennifer Suniga in Spokane at 206-681-9369 or jsuniga@sowa.org. To learn more about the organization, visit SpecialOlympicsWashington.org.
