John Brewer's Billings Chamber ranked top three in nation

The Billings, Montana Chamber of Commerce, which is managed by former Spokane Convention and Visors Bureau chief, John Brewer, has been named one of the top three chambers in the nation. The Billings Chamber of Commerce was designated as one of the top three Chambers of Commerce in its category in the United States today, according to the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives (ACCE). This designation puts the Billings Chamber on the map as the top three among hundreds of comparable chambers nationwide, and recognizes the organization as a finalist for the Chamber of the Year distinction. There are 7,000 chambers in the United States. Congratulations John!

Spokane's etailz, Inc. top five E-Retailers in the nation

Spokane-based etailz Inc. was one of five national finalists for the 2015 Internet Retailer Excellence: E-Retail Growth Award. Etailz, a $100 million technology and data-driven retailer based in Spokane, is dedicated to improving supplier and consumer experiences in multiple marketplaces. etailz was up against Dollar Shave Club (which won the award) Groupon Goods, NoMoreRack.com, and Warby Parker. Congratulations to etailz for being in the top 5!

$3 million remodeling project underway at Rosauers 14th and Lincoln store

If you have been into the Rosauers store at 14th and Lincoln lately, you know there is something big going on there. Starting last month Rosauers began a $3 million remodeling project on the store at 907 West 14th Avenue. The work by Contractors Northwest of Coeur d'Alene has mostly been done at night so as not to disrupt business at the busy store.

The interior is being remodeled, adding new flooring, fixtures and decor. They are moving the meat, bakery and deli, and expanding the produce department. Plus they are adding 300 square feet to the lobby entrance and seating at the deli.

Winston & Cashatt attorneys named 'Super Lawyers'

Super Lawyers Magazine has announced their list of the top attorneys in Washington and named the following Winston & Cashatt principals as 2015 Super Lawyers: C. Matthew Andersen, Kevin J. Curtis and Carl E. Hueber. In addition, Dave P. Gardner, Collette C. Leland and Elizabeth A. Tellessen were named as Rising Stars.

For the Mountain States region, Super Lawyers named Kenneth B. Howard as a Super Lawyer and Principal Scott A. Gingras as a Rising Star. Super Lawyers, is a research-driven, peer influenced rating service of outstanding lawyers who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement.

Winston & Cashatt, Lawyers was also recognized as the 2014 Pro Bono Firm of the Year by the Spokane County Bar Association's Volunteer Lawyer Program. David Gardner, Jeff Herbster, Lisa Malpass, Jeff Ropp and Tim Fischer were recognized as providing direct representation. Elizabeth Tellessen received special recognition as Direct Representative of the Year.

Alex Johnson Joins DEI Electrical Consultants

Alex Johnson has joined DEI Electrical Consultants, of Spokane Valley, as a project construction manager. A master electrician licensed in six Western states, he has 35 years of construction and project-management experience.

Initial commissions for which Johnson will be providing project-management services in support of electrical-system design and construction include the limited renovation of the Spokane Community College Inland Northwest Aerospace Technology Center at Felts Field Airport in Spokane; new Eastgate Elementary School in Kennewick, Wash.; and new Barbara McClintock STEM Elementary School in Pasco, Wash.

Johnson, who is a member of the International Association of Electrical Inspectors, holds a certificate in Mastering Project Management from Villanova University.

He was previously employed by Trindera Engineering.

Team of Seattle planning experts to visit Lincoln Heights

On June 17 and 18, a team of experts from Seattle will visit the Lincoln Heights commercial district to provide input as the City and neighborhood groups look to develop a vision for the busy area.

The Technical Assistance Panel from the Northwest Office of the Urban Land Institute (ULI) will provide advice regarding land use and development challenges in the Lincoln Heights neighborhood. The panel of 8 to 10 experts in the fields of real estate, planning, and development will also review background information provided by City staff, including survey information that outlines neighborhood resident interests and concerns in the Lincoln Heights District. On the afternoon of the final day, June 18, the panel will convene a 'report back' of their findings. This 'Report Back' for Lincoln Heights will be held from 3 to 4pm in the Council Chambers at Spokane City Hall (808 W. Spokane Falls Blvd). A written report will follow within 60 days.

City planners will look to the panel's input as the City develops a vision for the area. The planners will begin working with the neighborhood this fall.

The South Hill Planning Coalition and the Lincoln Heights Neighborhood Council have identified planning for the Lincoln Heights district as a high priority. The commercial district is generally focused around the intersection at 29th Avenue & Regal Street but includes the larger commercial area around Lincoln Heights Shopping Center.

Kelly Glenn Joins bankcda as VP Commercial Lending

bankcda has recently announced that Kelly Glenn has joined their Commercial Lending team as Vice President. Glenn has a successful record of establishing and retaining profitable commercial banking relationships. He has been instrumental in growing commercial loan portfolios according to regulatory standards. He has a strong commitment to maintaining accuracy and transparency through the lending process. Glenn received a BS in Finance from the University of Idaho. Currently, bankcda has three branches, Coeur d'Alene, Hayden and Kellogg, Idaho.

Hennessey Funeral Homes and Crematories offers Lavender Festivals to benefit the Tears Foundation

Hennessey Funeral Homes and Crematories will be holding Lavender Festivals beginning Father's Day June 21 and running through July 1 to benefit the Tears Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides funds to assist with the cost of burial or cremation services for families who have lost a baby. The Lavender Festivals will be held at 1006 N Summit Blvd from 10am until 3pm on June 21, 26, 27, 29, and 30, and July 1. Attendees can cut and take home a bouquet of fresh lavender, try the art of lavender wand making, and learn how to properly dry lavender. Lavender wands will also be on sale with all proceeds benefitting The Tears Foundation.

The Park Bench Cafe Extends Hours for the Summer Season

The Manito Park Bench Cafe opened for the season several weeks ago Friday-Sunday only, but starting today, June 15, the Park Bench Cafe will be open from 8am to 7pm daily. They will continue their Free Summer Concert Series on Fridays from 6-8pm through mid-August. The Park Bench Cafe serves sandwiches, salads, breakfast items, lemonade, espresso drinks and lots more and also offers wine and beer during the Friday concerts.

Spokane University District names Executive Director

The Spokane University District Board has announced that Spokane native, Mark Mansfield, has accepted the position of Executive Director starting July 6.

Mansfield will hold the distinction of being the first full-time Executive Director for the University District. Responsibilities include leading project development inside the district, guiding strategic direction, serving as liaison for the district to the City of Spokane and other federal, state and local government agencies, and facilitating board development for the University District Public Development Authority (UDPDA) and University District Development Association (UDDA).

Mansfield holds a PhD in Architecture, a Master's degree from the Graduate School of Design, Harvard University, with the Dimitris Pikionis Award for outstanding achievement; an MBA from the University of Washington; and a BA in Communication from the University of Puget Sound. As an entrepreneur of a web-based retail business in the 1990s, Mansfield was an early adopter of e-commerce and social media trends. He has worked with development of historic properties and his own developments have received local, regional, and state restoration and preservation awards, including the Washington Trust for Historic Preservation's Preservation Design Award. He has been a visiting scholar at Harvard University and taught at different Universities in Norway on architecture, design, and business development.

Spokane Realtors name prize winner from this year's Open House weekend

At this year's Spokane REALTORS Open House Weekend event, Jeannette Kroft claimed her winner's check this past week, a $3,000 project credit from Sullivan Homes. Kroft also won a $450 gift certificate from HouseMaster. Todd Sullivan, managing partner of Sullivan Homes presented Jeannette with her certificate. Terry Jordahl, Keller Williams, was the listing broker at the winning house, who receives $250 cash.
