Valleyfest is this weekend!

Celebrate Valleyfest this Friday through Sunday, September 25-27 at Mirabeau Point Park and CenterPlace Regional Event Center. The big parade Friday night, entertainment, food, beer and wine, over 200 vendors, kids activities, hot air balloons and more. Go to valleyfest.org for all the details.

Spokane Arena open house this Friday

This Friday, September 25, from 5 to 8 pm, the Spokane Arena will open its doors for free to the public for the 20th Anniversary Open House. The Open House will feature self-guided tours, interactive photo opportunities, a chance to throw a football around on the Spokane Shock field, major prize giveaways, birthday cake, a chance to explore the backstage areas, visit the Spokane Chiefs locker room and more.

HUB All Star breakfast Thursday

The HUB Sports Center is hosting its first annual All-Star Breakfast fundraiser. Come meet the HUB All-Stars from staff to community leaders to local youth. The program will provide an update on the HUB Sports Center activities and programs as well as a vision for the future. The breakfast takes place at the Mirabeau Park Hotel this Thursday, September 24. Doors open at 7am, program begins at 7:30am and concludes by 9am.

Proceeds from the breakfast go towards the HUB Sports Center, a 501c3 nonprofit, and programs like HUB 360 (an afterschool program for at-risk middle school students) and HUB Camp Scholarships for disadvantaged youth. The HUB Sports Center hosts about 175,000 people annually and this November the 1 millionth person will walk through the doors.

The HUB Sports Center is a 501c3 nonprofit sports facility that contains 50,000 sq. ft. of court space that is used for basketball, volleyball, futsal (indoor soccer) and pickleball as well as other events. The HUB's purpose is to provide events that have a positive impact on youth and the community.

Three new locations announced for Pawn 1

Pawn 1 is opening three new locations which will bring their total to 19 stores. They're opening the first store on the west side of the state in Bremerton by November 1. And this spring, the company also plans to open new 6,000 square foot stores in Airway Heights and in Meridian, Idaho. The Airway Heights store will be in a new development, the West Plains Plaza at the southwest corner of Hayford Road and U.S. 2.

Free Pizzas for Blaze Pizza fans in Spokane on Friday, September 25

Blaze Fast Fire'd Pizza, a fast-casual artisanal pizza restaurant, will open in Spokane this Thursday, September 24. To celebrate the grand opening, Blaze will offer free build-your-own artisanal pizzas on Friday, September 25 from 10am to 1am to anyone who follows Blaze on Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook. The highly anticipated restaurant features 2,600 square feet interior with seating for 52 inside and an outdoor patio. The location is 926 N Division, near Gonzaga University.

The restaurant features an interactive open-kitchen format that allows guests to customize one of the menu's signature pizzas or create their own, choosing from a wide selection of fresh ingredients, all for about $8. The pizzas are then sent to a blazing hot oven, and ready to eat in 3 minutes.


Red Lion Inn & Suites coming to the Big Apple

Spokane-based Red Lion Hotels Corporation has announced the company has signed a franchise license agreement with an affiliate of Three Wall Capital, LLC., to convert a hotel in Brooklyn to a Red Lion Inn & Suites within the next few weeks. Under the agreement, the hotel will continue to be managed by Boast Hotel Management Company, LLC.

The future Red Lion Inn & Suites Brooklyn, 279 Butler Street, has 104 guest rooms, an indoor hot tub, and offers complimentary breakfast. The hotel is located in historic Park Slope Brooklyn and Cobble Hill, one of the most desirable areas of Brooklyn with more than 150 restaurants and lounges. As part of the conversion to Red Lion, the hotel will be upgraded with completely new guest rooms and all public spaces, the breakfast area, technology and guest reception will be upgraded as well. The renovation should be completed by the end of the first quarter of 2016.

Red Lion Hotels Corporation has recently signed a franchise license agreement with Cabot Lodge Ridgeland, Ltd., for the Cabot Lodge Jackson North/Ridgeland in Mississippi. Following the conversion this fall, the hotel will continue to be managed by MMI Hotel Group.

Set to launch this fall as The Cabot Lodge Jackson North, a Red Lion Hotel, the property is located in central Mississippi northeast of Jackson. The hotel has 200 guest rooms, an outdoor swimming pool, an exercise room, a business center, and just over 1,000 sq. ft. of event meeting space, and offers complimentary hot breakfast every morning, and complimentary cocktail service every evening.

Dania Furniture building renovation nearly complete

For the past three years Dania Furniture has been renovating their four story historic building at 319 West Riverside. The project is nearly complete and the furniture store will hold a grand opening celebration next month to show off the restoration which added 20,000 square feet of showroom space on the second and fourth floors. Total space in the building is now 55,000 square feet. The cost of the renovation is estimated at $2 million. Walker Construction is the contractor.

New CFO for Cancer Care Northwest

Cancer Care Northwest has hired Dan DeNike as chief financial officer. Over the past 20 years, DeNike has held senior financial management positions in large, publicly traded companies in a number of industries.

City of Spokane hires New Riverfront Park Redevelopment Program Manager

The City of Spokane Parks and Recreation Division has hired Berry Ellison as Program Manager for the Riverfront Park Redevelopment. Ellison, a landscape architect with two decades of experience in engineering, design and management, will oversee the Project Management Team, which will manage the design and construction of the voter-approved renovations to Riverfront Park.

Most recently, Ellison worked for the local landscape design firm Land Expressions, LLC. During his time with Land Expressions, he worked as project manager and landscape architect on numerous public improvement projects such as: The Spokane Falls Upper Falls River Restoration, Huntington Park and the Tribal Gathering Place, the Chief Garry Monument, the Gaiser Conservatory Renovation in Manito Park, Centennial Trail improvements at the INB Performing Arts Center, and the recently opened Downtown Spokane River Access Point.

Ellison graduated from Utah State University in 1995 with a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture. In addition to being a partner at the landscape architecture firm Southwick Landscape Architects in Nevada, Ellison has worked on many other large-scale and multi-faceted projects such as assisting in the design of Las Vegas Boulevard 'The Strip' (Phase II) and the Bellagio Resort, also in Las Vegas.
