MAC's road trip to view Picasso in Seattle



The Museum of Arts and Culture Foundation is offering a special tour to the Seattle Art Museum October 22-24 for a docent-led viewing of the Picasso exhibit. The event includes airfare, accommodations at the Hotel Alexis (one of the "Best 500 Hotels in the World," according to Travel and Leisure Magazine,) a welcome and greeting by Seattle Art Museum executive director Derrick Cartwright, a reception hosted by JP Morgan Chase and a docent-led Picasso exhibit tour. Shock fans are winners too!

To congratulate the Spokane Shock on an outstanding season, Washington State University Athletics will offer free tickets to the Cougars' football home-opener against Montana State for fans attending Friday's ArenaBowl XXIII at the Spokane Arena.

All ticket holders for ArenaBowl XXIII can redeem their ticket stub at the WSU ticket office for a free ticket to the Montana State game, Sept. 11. Tickets must be redeemed in person at the ticket office prior to or on the day of the game. For more information, call 1-800-GO-COUGS.

Jos. A Bank moving across the street

River Park Square also has announced that Jos. A. Bank will relocate there to make room for Mobius Science Center. The move allows for Mobius to occupy the 25,000 square-foot space on the ground floor of the West 809 building across the street from River Park Square. The menswear retailer's new location, near the corner of Main and Wall streets, is scheduled to open in early November 2010. It will remain open at its current West 809 location until the new space is ready.

Phillip Carstens has been named to the Best Lawyers list in the practice of tax law. He has been listed in the annual publication for the past 10 years. Tom Bassett has been listed in the practice of bankruptcy and creditor-debtor law. Bassett has been named to the annual list for the past 20 years. Cat Parker promoted at University of Phoenix

The University of Phoenix announced that Cat Parker has been promoted to financial services manager for the University's Spokane campus. Parker was previously senior finance counselor for the University, where she successfully managed student accounts and ensured student progression. In her new capacity as financial services manager, she will manage the finance department to the standards of the University of Phoenix while staying in compliance. Prior to working at the University, Parker worked at Fox Valley Mortgage in Arizona as a senior processor. Parker is currently pursuing a bachelor of arts in communications at the University of Phoenix. She expects to graduate in 2011.

6th Annual Cancer Care Northwest Foundation Golf Classic

Cancer Care Northwest Foundation, a local non-profit that supports Inland Northwest cancer patients and families with education, support and financial assistance, is hosting its 6th Annual Golf Tournament, September 9, at MeadowWood Golf Course. Check in is at 12:00 and tournament begins at 1:30. Cost is $100 per person or $400 per team and includes green fees, cart, refreshments, prizes and dinner. Deadline to enter is 9/1/2010. New faces at Desautel Hege Communications

Emily Easley has joined Desautel Hege Communications as an account coordinator. A graduate of Washington State University with a communications/public relations degree, Easley competed and internship at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in Richland. Tyler Tullis has been hired as an account assistant. He is a graduate of Gonzaga University with a degree in public relations, and completed an internship with the YMCA of the Inland Northwest.

Walk for a Good Cause

The Inland Northwest Buddy Walk supporting the National Down Syndrome Society will be held on Saturday, September 25 in Riverstone Park, Coeur d'Alene. The Walk is sponsored by DS Connections. Registration begins at 8:30am and the walk begins at 9:30am. The Buddy Walk was created by the National Down Syndrome Society in 1995 to celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness Month in October and to promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down Syndrome. The Buddy Walk has grown from 17 walks in 1995 to nearly 300 walks planned worldwide for 2010. The Buddy Walk is open for event sponsors. Only a few days left for the Salvation Army's Back to School Supply Drive

Thousands of needy children in the Spokane area in need of basic essentials to head back to school to help them succeed this school year. People can drop off needed supplies and/or monetary donations at the following locations: Walgreens, Fred Meyer, Rite Aid and Shopko stores, Washington State Employees Credit Union, PrimeSource Credit Union and The Salvation Army Community Center at 222 E Indiana. These supplies will be distributed to more than 2,500 low income children in the Spokane area. The Back To School Back Pack Distribution is Monday August 23rd and Tuesday, August 24th from 1-7pm. It will be open to all families in need at The Salvation Army Community Center Gymnasium, located at 222 E Indiana Avenue, Spokane. The distribution is done on a first come, first served basis.

Gunny Performes at the Bing

R. Lee Ermey “Gunny” from the TV show “Lock n’Load” and “Mail Call” and from films like "Full Metal Jacket" and X-Men: The Last Stand" will be performing at the Bing Crosby Theater this Friday, August 27.
