Dick Denenny to be Honored as the 2010 Harry E. Nelson Citizen of the Year

The Greater Spokane Valley Chamber of Commerce has announced that the 2010 Citizen of the Year is Richard "Dick" H. Denenny. This honor will be presented to him at the Gem of the Valley Awards Gala on Saturday, January 22, 2011.

Dick is a long time resident of the Spokane area and Spokane Valley. Born August 18, 1947 in Spokane, Dick Denenny attended high school at Gonzaga Prep and then went on to the University of San Francisco and the University of California, Berkeley. He was married to his sweetheart Kathy in 1970, and together they have 3 children and 4 grandchildren. Dick owned and managed his family's business, Denenny's Marina from 1970-1981, and then became an employee benefits insurance broker. Ten years later, he opened his current insurance agency, RHD Employee Benefits and it's still going strong. He enjoys snow and water skiing, motorcycling, playing with his grandchildren, and is also a private pilot.

Dick has been a tireless worker for improvements in the city, serving two terms on the City Council. He was instrumental in getting public transportation routes and the sewer system into the Valley when serving as past Chair and 7-year board member of the Spokane Transit Authority and Spokane Regional Health District, respectively. Dick held the Chairman of the Board position for the Greater Spokane Valley Chamber of Commerce from 2000-2001. Other notable organizations and affiliations are: past board member and past President of the Northeast Community Center, 31-year member of the Mt. Spokane/National Ski Patrol, 20-year member/board of directors for Rotary Club #21, and board member for both Spokane Valley Partners and the Inland NW Chapter of the Red Cross.

Congratulations to Dick Denenny, a true community visionary for the Spokane Valley! You can reach Dick Denenny at dick@denenny.com or by calling 509-924-9211.
