Interface College Spokane to offer Medical Assisting

— Interface College-Spokane is expanding program offerings to include Medical Assisting to meet current employment demands locally and nationally. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects medical assistant employment growth of 30.9 percent through 2018, making it one of the fastest growing occupations in healthcare. The field is expected to be adding 162,900 more jobs due to an aging population and the government's commitment to providing health care to a broader generation of people.

Currently, 1 out of every 5 jobs in Spokane is in the health care field. The Medical Assistant program (MOA/MA) at Interface College-Spokane will prepare graduates for employment opportunities in private physicians' offices, clinics and group practices. Medical Assistants are vital in the day-to-day operations and perform a broad range of both clinical and administrative duties; from collecting patient vital signs and blood pressure to managing an office.

Medical Assistant ranks high on U.S. News & World Report top 50 job list for 2012, listing both rapid job growth and professional fulfillment as factors to the high ranking. Applications to the Medical Assistant program are now being accepted with the first class starting at the end of August. For more information about the Medical Assisting program or Interface College-Spokane, call 509-467-1727 or go online to Interface.edu.
