Cyrus O'Leary's Pies CEO Barclay Klingel to speak at Executive Connect breakfast

— The origin of Cyrus O'Leary's Pies goes back to 1968 when Cyrus Vaughn arrived in Spokane and quickly became one of the city's most prolific and successful restaurant operators - beginning with his opening of Arby's on Second Avenue. In 1980 he opened the iconic Cyrus O'Leary's Restaurant on W. Main. Although the restaurant closed a year ago, its offshoot, Cyrus O'Leary's Pies, continues to expand. In the early years, the company was producing a few hundred pies per week from the back of the restaurant. Today throughput averages more than 1,000 pies per hour, largely attributable to implementing lean manufacturing principles.

Barclay Klingel is the CEO of Cyrus O'Leary's Pies and will share his story about joining Cyrus in 1990 and their journey building a successful food manufacturing business. He will talk about the history of the company, highlights of the business, challenges faced and lessons learned. Barclay graduated from the University of Illinois in 1977 and received an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1982.

Come hear about building a nation-wide business out of award-winning pie. The Executive Connect Breakfast is Thursday, September 27th , 7:30 - 9:00 am (doors at 7 am) at The Spokane Club. Registration is $30. Go to connectnw.org for more information.
