Busiest March ever for sporting events in Spokane

— We are rolling out the welcome mat to thousands of athletes and fans coming to Spokane in March. It's shaping up to be the busiest month EVER for sports travelers coming to Spokane. Wrestling, volleyball and basketball invade the region bringing thousands of people, millions of dollars and big dreams of championships. A perennial favorite, USA Volleyball Pacific Northwest Qualifier (PNQ) is bigger than ever. Already the single largest hotel room night generator in Spokane every year, the tournament is now topping 12,000 hotel night stays and more than 6,000 players!

March also brings the national spotlight back to Spokane with NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament Second and Third Rounds. According to the host venue, Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena, ticket sales are brisk. Spokane is the second fasting selling tournament site in the country next to New York. Volleyball and NCAA Basketball are just two of eight outstanding sporting events this upcoming month.

Together, March sporting events are estimated to bring well over $10 million dollars into the region and generate over 15,000 hotel room night stays. We will welcome more than 9,000 athletes and approximately 11,000 traveling spectators. "Money from outside our community will be injected into our local economy in March with all these sports visitors," says Eric Sawyer, Spokane Sports Commission President and CEO. "Not to mention how Spokane shines during these events. Visitors may arrive as sports fans, but they will leave as fans of Spokane."
