Spokane Symphony Earns First Place ASCAP Award

— The Spokane Symphony won a First Place national ASCAP award for adventurous programming, given annually to honor orchestras whose music programming indicates extraordinary efforts to expand the symphonic repertoire and develop and educate orchestra audiences.

During the 2013-14 season, the Spokane Symphony featured the works of several living composers, such as Andrew Norman (The Great Swiftness), Esa-Pekka Salonen (Foreign Bodies), John Mackey (Harvest: Trombone Concerto), Anna Clyne (Night Ferry) and more.

The League and ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) present the awards each year to orchestras of all sizes for programs that challenge the audience, build the repertoire, and increase interest in music of our time. Approximately $750,000 has been bestowed on orchestras since the awards were established in 1947.
