STCU awards $25,000 to local nonprofits

— STCU employees are known for their passion for service. They lived up to that reputation by donating thousands of volunteer hours to support local nonprofits in 2014.

To support those efforts in 2014, STCU has given away $25,000 to more than 40 non-profit organizations where individual employees documented volunteering at least 20 hours. That includes gifts of $500 to $2,500 being delivered this week by 25 STCU employees who are especially active volunteers.

Molly Person, a consumer loan processor with STCU, volunteered her time for the Girl Scouts of Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho. The credit union supported that effort with a $500 gift.

Some of the other nonprofits receiving checks this week from STCU employees: Big Brothers and Big Sisters of the Inland Northwest, the American Cancer Society, Leadership Spokane, Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery, the North Idaho Boy Scouts of America Foundation, Kiwanis of Cheney, and the Women's and Children's Free Restaurant and Community Kitchen.

To support the volunteer spirit, this year the credit union kicked off its Volunteers Count program, which encourages employees to serve organizations that speak to their passions.

To assist them, the credit allows each employee to take a paid day away from work to serve as a volunteer. Those employees who serve 20 or more hours over the course of the year can earn financial gifts of $50 or more in their name to their favorite volunteer organization.

Go to stcu.org/local for STCU's giving guidelines.
