HDG Architecture wins major regional design award

Spokane's HDG Architecture was the sole winner from Spokane (anywhere east of Seattle and Portland) for the Northwest Pacific region AIA awards 2018. The Merit award-winning design was for NUDO, the Ramen restaurant located at 818 West Sprague across from the Davenport Hotel.

Seventeen projects received recognition in the 2018 Design Awards from AIA Northwest and Pacific Region (NWPR). A record-breaking 113 projects were entered by the region's architects from Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana and Guam/Micronesia. The awards were conferred at an Honor and Awards celebration on November 15 at the Bishop Museum in Honolulu, Hawaii.

The AIA Northwest and Pacific Region judges commented, "the stimulus for the NUDO design and materials is indicative of Japanese culture as well as the juxtaposition of colors and textures creating balance; another characteristic of Japanese culture, created a great atmosphere. The interior retrofit is nicely executed. Straightforward, spatially sound. Mega cartoons energize the interior."

HDG was launched in 2010 by Josh Hissong and Armando Hurtado, both with incredible design acumen and certain iconoclastic streaks. Their architecture and design studio is located at 230 S. Washington (at 3rd) in Spokane. Frequently cited as an up-and-coming firm in the pacific northwest, their designs can be found in places like Seattle, Oahu, New York, and Pennsylvania as well as rural Washington and Idaho.

You can see more of their work at their website, hdg-architecture.com. The phone number is 509-321-5064.
