Spokesman-Review moving printing operations to Spokane Valley

— Cowles Publishing Company, producer of The Spokesman-Review, has announced plans to acquire a commercial press and move its printing and inserting operations to a new site in the Spokane Valley by the end of the year.

Publisher Stacey Cowles said the newspaper is in negotiations to acquire a press capable of printing not only The Spokesman-Review but also a range of publications and advertising inserts, representing expansion of the Company's presence in the regional commercial web printing business. The new press will be installed in an industrial building under development by Centennial Real Estate Investments in the 19200 block of East Euclid near Barker Road in the City of Spokane Valley. Centennial and Cowles Publishing are subsidiaries of Cowles Company.

The new facility will be staffed by existing Cowles Publishing employees, Cowles said. He said no personnel changes are anticipated as a result of the move. About 60 full-time, 12 part-time and 20 occasional positions will be affected as printing, packaging and trucking operations relocate.

Cowles said Centennial anticipates leasing the vacated space at Monroe and Riverside to a combination of manufacturing, office and retail tenants.
