Irish Week in Spokane is lead-up to March 16 St. Patrick's Day Parade

Despite a still healthy covering of snow across the Inland Northwest, the streets of Spokane are slowly being recolored with shades of green in preparation for the 41st Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade, this Saturday, March 16.

Today, March 11 begins the events for 'Irish Week' leading up to the parade, presented by The Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, with an official proclamation at City Hall from Mayor David Condon at the weekly meeting of the Spokane City Council. That will be followed on Wednesday, March 13 with the annual Dignitary Luncheon at noon at Anthony's Spokane Falls Restaurant. Leading the entries will be the Grand Marshal, Tony Lamanna representing Spokane Honor Flight. This organization provides area veterans of World War II, The Korean and Vietnam Wars with trips back to national monuments in Washington, D.C.

Other 2019 dignitaries include:
Irish Business: David's Pizza
Irish Man: Tom Sherry
Irish Woman: Joanne McAtee
Irish Colleen: Molly McLaughlin
Irish Clan: Reilly

One final event during Irish Week is the traditional Irish Coffee on the morning of the parade at Jack and Dan's Bar and Grill, also honoring the 2019 parade luminaries.

On Saturday, the parade begins at 12 noon from the staging area in the Spokane Arena parking lot. It also concludes there. A recent tradition began by the Friendly Sons has been to help 2nd Harvest with donations of both food and cash. Parade entrants and spectators are encouraged to contribute to this important activity. For more Information, visit www.friendlysonsofstpatrick.com.
